My System

6 x Sunpower 215 watts panels = 1,290 Watts

Fronius IP15 Outdoor Inverter

ACT Gross FIT which commenced on 1 March 2009 with a gross tariff of 50.05c per KWH until 30 June 2010. Will be reviewed then. GST is payable if relevant.

They paid all GST until mid Dec 2010 whence only those registered for GST and with an ABN provided will be paid GST

Tax and GST Issues

In April 1 sought a private ruling from the ATO as to whether or not I was liable for income tax on the earnings and if I could claim depreciation as a tax deduction

I also sought a ruling as to whether or not I was liable to collect GST and remit it to the ATO

I received two private rulings the public versions of which are attached as pdf files

Note that these are private rulings and as such only apply to me

However the general principles would be relevant to many

I declared that I purchased the panels as a means of offsetting my large use of electricity and never intended nor are likely to make a profit in the traditional sense

My 1.3KW system is expected to generate about $900 per annum (ex GST), which will take between 7-8 years to recoup my initial investment
